Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Clyde Dye?
Clyde Dye is an eco-friendly clothing re-dye service based in Los Angeles. We hand-transform faded, stained, or outgrown garments (for both kids and adults) using bold overlay dye or dreamy pastel “Unicorn” ice dye, then mail them right back in better-than-new color.
2. Does Clyde Dye offer pickup or drop-off services?
Yes, but there's a catch. We don't do house calls, but we can meet you at Marine Park in Santa Monica at a set time. Sorry if that's weird. It seems to be the easiest thing for our small team at this time.
3. What types of clothes can I send for re-dyeing?
We accept items that are at least 75% natural fiber (cotton, linen, rayon, etc.). This includes t-shirts, onesies, sweatshirts, baby blankets, accessories, and more — as long as they can hold dye well.
4. Will the stains vanish after dyeing?
Instead of trying to remove stains, our process camouflages them with vibrant color. Most blemishes disappear beautifully, though grease or bleach stains might still peek through—in which case, we can re-dye in a darker shade upon request. For heavily worn items, try our Mystery Dye for maximum camouflage. For black items, select 'bleach tie.'
5. What’s “Unicorn” dye?
“Unicorn” is our signature pastel ice-dye swirl—think of pastel pink, lavender, mint, and peach melting together in unexpected, one-of-a-kind patterns. It’s whimsical, vibrant, and magical— no unicorns are harmed in the process.
6. How long does dyeing take?
We process mail-ins once a month—around the 15th—to run energy- and resource-efficient batches. The typical turnaround is 7-10 business days from receipt. Need it rushed? Message us when booking and we’ll do our best.
7. How should I care for dyed garments?
Wash cold the first time to set color, then return to your normal routine. Everything comes back to you rinsed, air-dried, and fixed with dye—so there’s minimal bleeding or fading.
8. What items are not accepted?
We can’t accept:
- Unwashed, soiled, or moldy items
- Items with pet hair or heavy wear (holes, tears, etc.)
- Fabric blends with less than 75% natural fibers
This helps ensure safety, hygiene, and dye performance.
9. How does payment work?
Once your order is submitted, we confirm item count, then email you a payment link. No charges are collected before drop-off or mail-in.
10. How do I get the prepaid shipping label?
We email it to you after your form is submitted. Shipping is completely included in your order—Clyde Dye handles the return postage.
11. What about ready-made items?
We do — check out the SHOP section for upcycled, hand-dyed pieces that are ready to wear immediately. If the page cannot be found, it means we're updating it with new inventory.
12. Can you host a dye party or workshop?
Absolutely! Book Clyde Dye for birthday parties, baby showers, or adult “dye-dates.” We also run DIY workshops and group sessions—email clydedyeLA@gmail.com for event details.
13. Are your dyes eco-friendly?
Yes. We use Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes -- non-toxic, low-impact, and permanent. Our process is low-waste, dye bonds with fabric, and we don’t use problematic colorants like turquoise (copper). You’re getting sustainable, kid-friendly re-dye results you can trust.
